Elina Gertsman, assistant professor of medieval art, recently won the John Nicholas Brown Prize from the Medieval Academy of America for her book, The Dance of Death in the Middle Ages: Image, Text, Performance (Brepols, 2010). The award is given annually for the best first book from an author in any medieval field.
The honor comes along with a certificate and a monetary award of $1,000. It is announced at the annual meeting of the academy each spring.
