Case Western Reserve University parents and guardians of children ages 10 to 16 can register early for the 2014 National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), a program that provides a combination of athletics and education.
NYSP takes place weekdays June 9 to July 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a variety of activities around campus from the playing fields for sports to the classrooms for education programs to work on math, science and language skills.
Early registration for returning campers is Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Adelbert Gym. Early registration for first-time campers is Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Adelbert Gym.
Early registration is strongly recommended. Last year, more than 600 children participated, and a large number of attendees are expected again this year.
Dennis Harris, NYSP project administrator, requires parents or guardians to bring their children with them to register. Physicals are required to participate. Free physicals will be available at registration.
The early bird fee is $60 for Cleveland residents and $150 for non-residents. The cost includes lunch each day. For an additional cost, families can have camp hours extended until 5:30 p.m.
The program offers required swimming classes for all campers and opportunities for basketball, hip-hop and modern dance, track-and-field activities, soccer games, educational workshops and field trips.
