The Northern Ohio Art Dealers Association will host two events featuring Case Western Reserve University professor of American art Henry Adams on Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16, at the Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Foundation’s Transformer Station (1460 W. 29th St., Cleveland).
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Adams will lead a “walk-and-talk” tour of art featured during the three-day event at the various art dealers’ booths. Works featured and for sale include a cross-section of historic, regional, international, modern and contemporary paintings, drawings, original prints, photography, fiber art and sculpture. Galleries represented include Bonfoey, William Busta, Thomas French Fine Arts, Harris Stanton, Shaheen Modern and Contemporary Art, Tregoning & Company and Vern Galleries.
Adams will make his second appearance on Sunday at 2 p.m. to discuss and sign his new book, Painting in Pure Color, Modern Art in Cleveland before the Armory Show 1908-1913. Other books by Adams will be available.
The book evolved from last summer’s exhibit, “Pioneering Modernism: Post-Impressionism in Cleveland, 1908-1913,” at the Cleveland Artists Foundation in Lakewood. The event featured work by such early 20th-century art pioneers as August Biehle, Henry Keller, Abel Warshawsky, Frank Wilcox and Marguerite and William Zorach. Adams and Lawrence Waldman, of Shaker Heights, collaborated on the book and exhibit.
