Daniela Calvetti, chair of the Department of Mathematics, and Erkki Somersalo, professor of mathematics, published a new textbook titled Computational Mathematical Modeling: An Integrated Approach Across Scales.
The book concentrates on two modeling paradigms: macroscopic, in which phenomena are described in terms of time evolution via ordinary differential equations; and microscopic, which requires knowledge of random events and probability. The book is intended for students in mathematics and the physical sciences at the advanced undergraduate level and above.
The textbook is available in paperback from Cambridge University Press. Learn more online.
