Miranda Spieler, assistant professor of history at the American University of Paris, will present a paper titled “Slave Flight, Slave Torture, and the State: Nineteenth-Century French Guiana” on Monday, Feb. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Mather House, Room 100.
Spieler is a historian of France and the French overseas empire whose work explores the relationship between law and violence.
