This month, Henry “Hank” Hill appears on Cleveland Magazine’s list of “20 Most Eligible Singles,” alongside a professional hockey player, local celebrities and…his daughter.
For perhaps the first time in the magazine’s history, it featured a father-daughter duo (although there was no mention of the family ties in the issue).
Hill, supervisor of the university’s Moving and Surplus Program, was suggested to the magazine’s editors by the host of a speed-dating event he attended last fall. When contacted by the magazine for more information and a photo, he submitted a snapshot of himself with his 26-year-old daughter, Brittany—and the editors immediately asked if she was single, too.
After interviews and long photo shoots, both Hills appear in the magazine’s February issue, sharing their biggest fears, dating rules and hypothetical plans for winning the Mega Millions. (Read his and hers online.)
Word has spread quickly across campus about Hill’s magazine appearance; he’s hearing a fair share of both praise and teasing.
Another reaction to the article? Wonder—as people find out Hill’s age of 51. “People often think I’m about 35 or 36,” he said when asked if people were surprised by his age. “I guess it’s thanks to a combination of good genes, drinking a lot of water, no smoking and working out.”
Working out keeps Hill busy outside of his career—and, because he juggles two jobs, he rarely has time for much else. Hill is in his 29th year as a Case Western Reserve employee, and he’s worked part-time as a weekend supply tech for 23 years.
“I’ve been working seven days a week for 23 years,” he said. “So beyond that, I don’t have time for much.”
That includes making any special plans for tonight—Valentine’s Day. “Besides working, I don’t have any plans,” he noted.

1. Facebook or Twitter?
Neither. I don’t know what I would actually post on there—“I went to work, came home, went to the gym, took a shower, now I’m watching football”? So, no.
2. What is your favorite building on campus and why?
Definitely 121 Fitness because I work out there regularly.
3. What is your favorite vacation spot?
I’ve got to make it to Alaska just one time and do an Alaskan cruise. My parents did it once, and my father says that was the best vacation he’s ever taken.
4. What is one of your hidden talents?
Being that I was in the military [Hill was in the Marines for six years before coming to Case Western Reserve], I can shoot really well.
5. What is your favorite thing about Case Western Reserve?
I would have to say interacting with the great employees and students that we have on campus.
