Stephen B. Levine, clinical professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine, authored the book Barriers to Loving: A clinician’s perspective, which Routledge published this past October.
The book is the result of a 20-year exploration of the nature of adult sexual love, particularly the ways love problems present to mental health professionals.
Levine begins with an exploration of the mental health profession’s avoidance of the topic. He then develops a compendium of love’s pathologies and discusses infidelity and sexual excess as common impediments to loving.
