In 2011, the elderly lost nearly $3 billion to financial abuse, a crisis described by the National Council on Aging as “the crime of the 21st century.”
Alumna Anne D. Veneziano will discuss the scope of the problem and potential solutions as part of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences’ Alumni Lecture Series on Friday, Nov. 22, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Mandel School.
In her talk, titled “For the Love of Money: Financial Exploitation of the Elderly,” Veneziano also will discuss the factors that cause the elderly to become vulnerable, the most common forms of fraud and the policies in place to protect the elderly.
Her talk will draw upon her 30-year practice of clinical social work and 18-year practice of law.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
