Senior third baseman Chad Mullins has been selected as D3Baseball.com’s Player of the Year, a 2011 First Team All-American and an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings first-team All-American. Mullins batted .437, hit eight homeruns and led the nation with 71 runs batted-in during a historic season for Spartan baseball, which broke the school record for wins for a second straight season, finished 33-15 overall and earned a berth into its first-ever NCAA Mideast Regional Championship.
“Chad has been a tremendous player and leader for us for four years,” said fifth-year head coach Matt Englander. “His work ethic and determination to be the best player he could be truly led the way for our program and was exemplary of the efforts all our seniors put in. There is no doubt that he is deserving of this award and has set the bar high for future generations of Spartan baseball players.”
In addition to Mullins, junior rightfielder Sam Alexander was tabbed as second-team All-Mideast Region while sophomore pitcher Jamie Hora was a third-team pick.
