The Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity announced the fall lineup for its Power of Diversity Lecture Series.
This fall’s national speaker will be John Quinones, anchor of the primetime television series What Would You Do? Quinones is a seven-time Emmy Award winner, current co-anchor of Primetime Live and ABC’s first Latino news correspondent. His series What Would You Do? shows how people react when confronted with various dilemmas, often dealing with race, gender, age and other factors.
His lecture, “A 20/20 Vision of Diversity,” will be Monday, Oct. 7, at 4:30 p.m. in the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building auditorium. A book signing and reception will be held immediately following the lecture.
This fall, the faculty speakers will be Kristin Williams, assistant professor in the Department of Community Dentistry, and John H. Flores, assistant professor of history.
Williams will give a lecture titled “Meeting a Community Need: Increasing Diversity Within the Dental Health Profession” on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. in the 1914 Lounge of the Thwing Center.
Flores’ lecture is titled “The Brown Power Movement of the 1920s: Reinterpreting Mexican Chicago” on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. in the 1914 Lounge of the Thwing Center.

The Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity sponsors the Power of Diversity lecture series to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement and civic education and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. The annual series includes two distinguished guest speakers from the national or international scene and four scholars from the faculty.
