“Valor y Dignidad and the Making of Sanctuary People”

Recent national attention focused on immigrants in cities like Springfield, Ohio, affirms the need to advance narratives that challenge anti-immigrant rhetoric and to nurture sanctuary practices and people.

The Department of Sociology will host a talk titled “Valor y Dignidad and the Making of Sanctuary People” by Gina Pérez, professor and chair of comparative American studies at Oberlin College, Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Mandel Community Studies Center, Room 108.

This talk will explore the ways activists, service providers, faith leaders, and religious communities have responsed to the precarity of Latina/o communities in Ohio from 2016 to 2021. Refreshments will be served.

RSVP to sociology@case.edu by Tuesday, Dec. 3.
