“Tools for Conceptualizing and Planning Health Equity Focused Implementation Research”

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to join the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio for its next monthly conversation centering on the role of research in advancing health equity. Kelly Aschbrenner, co-director of the Dartmouth Center for Implementation Science, will present “Tools for Conceptualizing and Planning Health Equity Focused Implementation Research” Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 11 a.m. to noon via Zoom.

These meetings foster a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible research environment and culture that engages the entire research community, from scientists and community members to healthcare professionals and social services providers.

Aschbrenner will provide an overview of practical strategies and tools for getting started with health equity-focused implementation research. Most evidence-based interventions are not widely adopted and sustained in community and health care settings. The gap is even greater in settings and populations that experience social, structural and economic barriers to access, including people from minoritized racial and ethnic groups, people living with disabilities, people who are LGBTQI+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex), and people with limited English proficiency. In addition, contextual factors like characteristics of the physical and social environment where people live can exacerbate health inequities (e.g., areas of persistent poverty, remote areas, and urban or residential segregation). 

Health equity-focused implementation science gives explicit attention to identifying and addressing gaps in the implementation and sustainment of evidence-based interventions. This webinar is designed to help researchers trained in implementation science integrate health equity as a primary or secondary focus of their work.
