CWRU continuing Campus Master Plan initiative—additional listening sessions taking place on campus Nov. 19

After nearly a decade since its last campus master plan was released, Case Western Reserve is continuing the initiative to shape the future of the university’s physical campus.

This new plan—led by campus master planning and design firm SmithGroup—will serve as a comprehensive guide for the physical evolution of campus, outlining a strategic road map for renovations, new construction and other investments in campus facilities and spaces, ensuring development decisions support the university’s mission and vision.

“The campus master plan will guide the development of our campus over the next decade,” said Dean Tufts, vice president for campus planning and facilities management, “offering clear guidance for how we use buildings, structures and open spaces to enhance the CWRU experience.”

The process

The campus master planning process comprises three parts:

  1. Understand: A discovery phase to uncover goals, aspirations, current challenges and opportunities for the future.
  2. Learn: Data and analysis phase, which culminates in testing of potential ideas and solutions.
  3. Explore: Based on the previous phases, SmithGroup will create recommendations for improvements and document the campus master plan in a final report.

Individuals from across the university are involved in campus master planning committees and will work directly with SmithGroup throughout each phase.

Sharing your input

SmithGroup will hold two open forums to hear feedback from students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community members directly.

The open forums will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at two times:

  • Noon to 1 p.m. at Sears think[box] in first-floor assembly room B (a tour of Sears think[box] will follow the forum)
  • 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Dively Building, Room 207
