3 things to do in Cleveland in October

As fall weather makes its return to our city, Clevelanders have an exciting October ahead. The Guardians are heading to the postseason, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will welcome its newest inductees and the Cavaliers will open the team’s new season, hot off a playoff run last year.

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are encouraged to join the celebrations—and check out more of what our city has to offer throughout the month.

Check out some of the events we suggest below and visit the Destination Cleveland website for more ideas.

Chagrin Documentary Film Festival

Learn something new and get a unique point of view on a wide range of topics during the 15th annual Chagrin Documentary Film Festival Oct. 1–6. This year’s event will feature 66 films from 32 countries and explore topics such as maternal mortality (American Delivery), Michelin Stars (Michelin Stars: Tales From The Kitchen), the Ukraine War (Porcelain War) and microplastics in the Great Lakes (Ripples of Plastic).

Machine Gun Kelly’s homecoming concert also is captured in Mainstream Sellout Live From Cleveland: The Pink Era, which will be shown Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Celebration Day

Oct. 13

Cleveland will be buzzing with some of the most notable musical acts of our time later this month for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Induction Ceremony. While tickets to attend the star-studded event will put a serious dent in your bank account, you can experience the hype for free during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Celebration Day Sunday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The event will feature free admission to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—including the first look at the new inductee exhibit—live music by local artists and engaging activities, such as poster printing “from-the-vault” displays, talks and more.

Celebration Day is free only to those who are Ohio residents (with proof of residency).

Cleveland Cavaliers 2024 home opener

Oct. 25

Watch the Cleveland Cavaliers open the 2024–25 season at home Friday, Oct. 25, against the Detroit Pistons—and have a chance to see undergraduate student Bella Caruso perform on the Cavs Dance Team.

The Cavs return in 2024 after a postseason berth last season, finishing second in the Central Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference. After a first round win over the Orlando Magic, the Cavs fell to the Boston Celtics in the second round.

See the team as it opens its highly anticipated 82-game season under new Head Coach Kenny Atkinson and led by the recently extended Donovan Mitchell.
