Cleveland Clinic’s Stanley Hazen weighs in on study which links high level of niacin and heart disease

Cleveland Clinic-led study discovers link between high levels of niacin—a common B vitamin— and heart disease

BioengineerStanley Hazen, a molecular medicine professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, commented on a study he and his colleagues conducted that uncovered a new pathway linked to high amounts of niacin, a popular B vitamin that was previously recommended to lower cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease. “What’s exciting about these results is that this pathway appears to be a previously unrecognized yet significant contributor to the development of cardiovascular disease,” he said.
