Baylor settlement highlights concerns around overlapping surgeries

Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center, said that overlapping surgeries are tricky to regulate, noting it’s difficult to define the “critical portion” of all surgeries because there are so many types of procedures. Letting trainees perform non-critical tasks, like opening and closing incisions, also allows surgeons to treat more patients, Hoffman said.
