Case Western Reserve University has partnered with a local company, Akron Glass Tinting, to install bird strike mitigation film on the glass walkway connecting the AW Smith and Kent Hale Smith buildings. This initiative aims to prevent bird collisions by using a gray-dot pattern on the film. The dots make the glass visible to birds, effectively reducing the risk of strikes.
Beginning Monday, June 24, Akron Glass Tinting will use a lift to clean the exterior glass before applying the dot film. For safety reasons, the area under the walkway will be closed until the installation is finished. Akron Glass Tinting estimates the project to be completed in three days. This effort underscores CWRU’s commitment to protecting wildlife and promoting a more sustainable campus environment.
