The Office of the Provost invites all undergraduate students to a special event focused on the art of having hard conversations. Hosted by Provost Joy K. Ward, this event will focus on how to engage in meaningful and thoughtful dialogue. Share an evening with other students and grow in your ability to convey your viewpoints and to learn from each other.
The event will first feature an informal discussion of current issues and global events among a group of faculty. Shannon French, the Inamori Professor in Ethics and professor of philosophy will serve as the moderator. From there, students will engage in a conversation with each other to learn new perspectives and hone their skills.
After hearing from a panel of faculty, students will participate in:
- Active listening;
- Understanding the lived experiences of others; and
- Speaking for oneself.
The panelists will be:
- Bryan Adamson, School of Law;
- Mark Aulisio, Department of Bioethics, School of Medicine;
- Maysan Haydar, Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences;
- Ramez Islambouli, Department of Religious Studies, College of Arts and Sciences;
- Barbara Mann, Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, College of Arts and Sciences; and
- Danny Manor, Department of Nutrition, Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine.
This event will be held Thursday, March 28, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in Linsalata Alumni Center’s Foster-Castele Great Hall.
Food and refreshments by The Jolly Scholar will be provided. Students can choose from a variety of sandwiches, veggies and snacks, available after sundown.
