Natalie Reiss, psychologist/psychometrician in University Counseling Services, and colleagues published “The assessment and management of the violent patient in critical hospital settings.” The article appears in the journal General Hospital Psychiatry.
Written in collaboration with Carl L. Tishler from The Ohio State University and John Dundas, a physician in Needham, Mass., the paper addressed how patient violence and aggression is prevalent in critical care settings, yet clinicians often are inadequately trained to assess and respond to these types of behaviors. Targeted toward trainees as well as seasoned clinicians, this article provides an updated review of the literature regarding the management of violence in the emergency department.
