6 months after East Palestine train disaster, CWRU embarks on study of health effects on residents
cleveland.com: Fred Schumacher, associate professor and co-leader of the Population and Cancer Prevention Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, and his research team spent time at the Columbiana County Fair enrolling local residents in a clinical study to monitor the health impacts of the Feb. 3 train derailment and chemical spill in East Palestine. “Maybe we shouldn’t be looking at what is in the environment, but what has caused a change in the people down there, and how do we measure that change?” he said. “This is why East Palestine is of interest, and where we want to lead in the long run.”
