Join the Case Western Reserve University Police Department as they take on the Cleveland Scrappers for a fundraising event at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Van Horn Field.
The Cleveland Scrappers are a team of visually impaired athletes who play an adaptive version of baseball. It is called beep baseball because the ball emits an audible tone that enables players with visual impairment to hit and field. As such, CWRU Police Department members will be blindfolded during the game.
As a community, Cleveland is fortunate to have the only beep baseball team in Ohio. Being the only team in town has its disadvantages, as all games are played out of state.
Traveling can get expensive and the CWRU Police Department’s goal with this event is to help raise money to offset some of the team’s costs. Ultimately, they hope to get the Scrappers to the 2024 National Beep Baseball World Series in St. Charles, Missouri.
Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase, and guests can enter to win a gift basket raffle. All proceeds will go directly to the Scrappers. Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating.
