Householder to be sentenced in June
WEWS: Michael Benza, professor of practice at the School of Law, discussed the upcoming sentencing of former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and former GOP leader Matt Borges, both convicted in a nearly $61 million scheme to pass a nuclear bailout bill, House Bill 6, at the expense of taxpayers. “There is the ability of a judge to enhance within the guidelines to find that a defendant has been untruthful during the proceedings, and that does often happen,” Benza said. “I also think that the judge is probably inclined to sentence it to high-range, given the magnitude of what happened in this case, not just the money that was involved, which is astronomical, but also the violation of both the public trust.”
