Mather Center to recognize 20 women with Flora Award; make a nomination

Throughout 2023, Case Western Reserve University will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, a community space and social innovator empowering women and advancing gender equity through research-informed action at CWRU and beyond. Beginning with the March Think Forum event featuring Anita Hill and concluding with a symposium and celebrating women and leadership on Oct. 18, this year of events will include opportunities for community members and supporters nationwide to engage with the center through programs, history projects, research and philanthropy.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, 20 deserving women will be recognized with a Flora Award. 

This award recognizes women who, like Flora Stone Mather, address problems in their community and work innovatively and tirelessly to solve them through significant philanthropic and communal service and other acts of generosity. Flora’s work centered on supporting the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of women and children

To be eligible for the Flora Award, nominees must meet the following criteria:

  1. Affiliation (i.e., faculty, staff, alumna, parent, friend of CWRU, philanthropic donor, community partner, volunteer, corporate partner, posthumous, other) with Case Western Reserve University.
  2. Must honor the legacy of Flora Stone Mather by embodying at least one way of demonstrated impact in empowering other women at the university, campus and/or Cleveland community level:
    1. Advocating for the advancement of women’s education and leadership;
    2. Supporting women through their gift of time through volunteerism;
    3. Supporting women through their philanthropy (either personal or institutional); and
    4. Commitment to honoring the diversity of women (such as race, sexual orientation, age, ability, socioeconomic status, national origin, religion etc.).

All nominations will be reviewed by a committee and awards will be given at the 20th anniversary celebration on Oct. 18. Completed nominations are due by April 30 at 11:59 p.m.
