On Thursday, March 28, the Department of Religious Studies and the President’s Interfaith Community Service Campus Challenge will sponsor “What’s the Impact of a New Pope? An Interreligious Perspective.” The talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence.
For the last 50 years, the Roman Catholic Church has engaged in serious conversation with other Christian and non-Christian faith traditions. This program will explore the impact of a new pope on these conversations from an interreligious perspective.
The program will start off with a panel moderated by Peter Haas, chair of the Department of Religious Studies. Panelists will include Doris Donnelly, professor and director of the Cardinal Suenens Center at John Carroll University; Rabbi Steven Denker of Temple Emanu El; Father Michael Butler of St. Innocent Orthodox Church; Tony Vento, the Newman Catholic Campus Minister in University Circle; and Marixa Lasso, associate professor of history.
Audience participation will be encouraged, and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
