Jeremy Bendik-Keymer, professor of philosophy, and Misty Morrison, a visual artist from Shaker Heights, will discuss their new book, Nussbaum’s Politics of Wonder: How the Mind’s Original Joy Is Revolutionary (2023), in a webinar hosted by the magazine and platform The Philosopher.
Bendik-Keymer and Morrison mixed visual art and text for their book, which presents an insight into the central idea of Martha C. Nussbaum’s philosophy and a new understanding of wonder as the mind’s positive anxiety. Their book argues that getting lost together in searching for how to make sense together is essential to democracy.
Central examples in the book include the Front Triennial’s “A Color Removed” (2018), originally created for the Beamer-Schneider Professorship at Case Western Reserve University, and the Chicago Commons Family Centers’ Reggio Emilia approach to education.
Bendik-Keymer and Morrison will talk with Danielle Celermajer, professor of sociology at the University of Sydney Celermajer and author of Summertime: Reflections on a Vanishing Future (2021).
