Dexter Voisin, dean of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, sat down with John Piche, Cleveland Heights Public Library‘s outreach librarian, to talk about his book, America the Beautiful and Violent: Black Youth and Neighborhood Trauma in Chicago.
Piche runs a discussion group based around The New York Times‘ 1619 Project at the library. Since October 2019, the library’s own 1619 Project series has featured 23 programs with more than 600 attendees.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Piche instead turned to virtual discussions, which are shared on YouTube.
In addition to Voisin, the series has highlighted Eric Foner, Richard Rothstein, David Waldstreicher, Bronwen Everill and Caitlin Rosenthal, among others.
