The Case Western Reserve University Unplugged Competition is officially at the halfway point. Through this competition, students are challenged to reduce their residence hall or Greek house’s energy consumption. The residence hall or Greek house with the largest percent energy reduction wins is the winner.
Over the first week, Delta Gamma stands in first place with 9.29% reduction in energy consumption. House 4 is in second place and Alumni House is in third place. The race is tight—keep pushing to get your building to the top. Find live standings and percent reductions on the Office of Sustainability’s page.
There’s one more week left before the final results are recorded. The winning building will have a pizza party.Individuals also are eligible to win gift cards and zero-waste kits by filling out the sustainability pledge.
Tips to win
- Monitor your building’s live energy consumption and take action.
- Get your friends and suitemates to reduce your building’s electricity use by turning off the lights, taking the stairs, unplugging devices and washing clothes in cold water.
- Have a pledge-signing party with your RA.
- Off-campus students can defrost their freezers and make sure to use LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs.
- Consider other home energy tips from the Office of Energy & Sustainability
Prizes
Points will be awarded for:
- Reducing the amount of energy used in your residence hall; and
- Signing up for the Sustainability Pledge.
The winning building will be treated to a pizza party.
Individuals are automatically entered to win raffle prizes by signing the pledge. Prizes include gift cards and zero-waste kits with tote bags, reusable silverware, beeswax wraps and more.
The Office of Energy and Sustainability and Sustainability Ambassadors—with support from Student Sustainability Council, and the Conservation Project and Residence Hall Association—organized this challenge.
