Non-O blood type may increase VTE risk in patients with cancer
Medscape Medical News (subscription required): Alok Khorana, professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, discussed new findings that show cancer patients with non-O type blood are more at risk of blood clots. “”Prior studies have indeed shown an association of blood group types with risk of VTE, although most such studies have been conducted in a noncancer population,” said Khorana. “In the meantime, cancer-associated VTE remains an important contributor to morbidity and mortality in people with cancer.”
