Can Cleveland become a ’15-minute city’? Experts say it’s a real possibility

WKYC: Darcy Freedman, the Swetland Professor in Environmental Health Sciences and director of the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health at the School of Medicine, lent her expertise for a story about Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb’s urban-planning goal to create a “15-minute city,” where everything a resident needs is within 15 minutes—including access to healthy foods. “The problem isn’t that, ‘We just don’t have a store,'” Freedman said. “It’s sort of like, ‘Well, why don’t we have a store?’ and we need to dig under and get at the roots of that problem.”
