University Technology ([U]Tech) has had a few recent reports of “Zoombombing” (a term for malicious individuals who look for open Zoom meeting links and disrupt the meeting or class or share inappropriate material).
The meeting URLs are often posted to social media allowing multiple agitators easy access to them. A few ways to protect the privacy of meetings include:
- Only share meeting URLs using a secure method, including Google Calendar and Canvas; never post to a website or social media.
- Hosts can require participants to authenticate themselves before joining using their CWRU network ID and passphrase.
- If the meeting will include people outside of the university, use the in-meeting security settings to limit who can share their screen or unmute themselves.
