The Office of Inclusion, Diversity & Equal Opportunity’s Power of Diversity Lecture Series continues Feb. 11 with “The Case for Diversity & Inclusion in American Higher Education,” a lecture by former college president and director of the National Museum of African Art Johnnetta B. Cole.
Cole has had a long and prominent career as an educator and humanitarian. She was the first African American woman to serve as president of Spelman College and as board chair of the United Way of America. She also has served as president of Bennett College for Women in North Carolina and is the director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art. She serves on the board of directors of Merck & Co. Inc. and the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the National Council of Negro Women.
In addition, Cole is the author of numerous publications. Most recently she co-authored a book, titled Gender Talk: The Struggle for Women’s Equality in African American Communities.
The lecture will be on Monday, Feb. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Studies Center, Room 115. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP by Feb. 4 to diversity-rsvp@case.edu.
