The Department of Physics at Case Western Reserve University awards the Michelson Postdoctoral Prize annually to an outstanding early-career physicist in any subfield of physics; it has become one of the premier awards for physicists at this career stage. The 2020 prize was awarded to Thibault Sohier (CNRS, Montepellier, France) for his contributions to the theory of two-dimensional materials.
Sohier did his doctoral work at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris and postdoctoral work at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and at the University of Liège in Belgium.
Sohier will be in-residence this week and deliver several lectures on lectron-phonon interactions and transport in two-dimensional materials, on the material graphene and on material discovery and design.
The lectures are free and open to the university community and public and should be of particular relevance to faculty and students in science and engineering departments with an interest in quantum materials.
Sohier’s remaining lectures will be held:
- Today (Nov. 30) at 11:30 a.m. in Rockefeller Building, Room 221;
- Thursday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. in Rockefeller Building, Room 301; and
- Friday, Dec. 3, at 12:45 p.m. in Rockefeller Building, Room 221.
