Rui Amaral Mendes, adjunct professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at the School of Dental Medicine, recently served as a corresponding author on a piece published by the British Medical Journal.
Titled “SARS-Cov-2 variants in India – a call for genomic surveillance,” the paper explained how stringent genomics surveillance and monitoring of the viral epidemiology and genetic diversity can help explain why people respond to COVID-19 in different ways, thereby helping design more effective health care strategies to better protect those at greater risk.
The piece was framed around a surge of cases in India.
