Thanks to a generous gift from the Graduate Student Council (GSC), Kelvin Smith Library now offers the Case Western Reserve University community access to the prestigious Oxford Handbooks Online, a collection of peer-reviewed, scholarly publishing resources encompassing more than 35,000 articles across 14 subject areas. The 264 handbooks will provide immediate access to the latest research, including monthly scholarly updates that introduce articles in advance of print publication.
Each handbook offers a critical survey of the current state of scholarship in a particular field of study. Individual articles, signed by top scholars in their fields, review the key issues and major debates and provide an original argument for how those debates might evolve.
Abstracts and keywords at the handbook and article level, in combination with deep tagging and XML data, make it easier for users to find the content they need and reduce research time.
In making the gift, GSC demonstrated its commitment to enriching graduate students’ experiences.
“We are excited to see how students and faculty will use this permanent resource that spans the humanities, arts and sciences,” said Anna Miller, GSC student director of advocacy. The vendor for the Oxford Handbooks Online is offering a free 30-minute webinar Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. to introduce the Oxford Handbooks Online to the Case Western Reserve community.
