In 1997, Elizabeth Bolman, the Elsie B. Smith Professor in the Liberal Arts and chair of the Department of Art History and Art, entered a forgotten late fifth-century church at a remote site in Upper Egypt. In an upcoming lecture, she will tell the story of the church, its conservation and the many people and institutions that made the Red Monastery Project, for which Bolman is the director, possible.
This lecture, titled “The Discovery and Conservation of a Lost Church: Egypt’s Sistine Chapel,” will be held Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m. via Zoom.
