Clinic raffles could make you a winner, and maybe a mother
The New York Times: Fertility clinics recently have started offering promotions such as random drawings and essay contests to award women a free round of in vitro fertilization. While many note it is good for business as well as for individuals, some find the idea unsettling. “We’re used to paying for medical services, so while we’re not thrilled that you would have to pay to create a life, it’s not so bizarre for us anymore,” said Jessica Berg, professor of law and bioethics. “But raffles are the most commercialized notion of it. Something about this is supposed to be sacred.”
