A closing reception for the African American Artists Alumni Exhibition will be held Friday, March 6, from 5-10 p.m. at the Art Studio Gallery, 2215 Adelbert Road.
An artist panel discussion will take place from 7-8 p.m. on the topic of the impact of the art exhibited at the show. Tim Shuckerow, director of art education and the Art Studio, will moderate the panel of featured alumni artists. The panel’s theme is the “Value of African American art in today’s contemporary culture.” The featured alumni artist have careers as art teachers, gallery directors, and working professional artists. The panel includes: Anna Arnold, Danny Carver, Sandra Noble, Georgio Sabino III, Jerome White, and musician and radio host Ras Matunji of WOVU 95.9FM.
The exhibition showcases the relationship between the African American ancestral traditions and symbolism and how they are reflected in current cultural expressions.
