What’s the deal with all the coal miner campaign ads?

ABC News: Much of American’s coal production takes place in three states: Pennsylvania, Ohio and Virginia, which all are battleground states in the upcoming election. Both candidates have taken out ads recently related to the coal industry, with three coming from candidate Mitt Romney. “The logic for Romney is to find a potential economic problem that is relevant to Ohio voters that can potentially be connected to Obama,” said Justin Buchler, associate professor of political science.
