More than 1 in 4 Cuyahoga County children live in poverty
ideastream: The number of Northeast Ohio children living in poverty is holding steady from last year but is still up from several years prior, at 28.7 percent. Claudia Coulton, co-director of the Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development, said the increase began six to eight years ago. “And then we added on to that a recession, which pushed it even further. So these are very high numbers,” she said. “And we know that child poverty has a very long-term effect on child development.”
