Did You Know: Affinity groups

With homecoming weekend in October, Case Western Reserve University alumni gathered from all corners of the country for festivities and to celebrate their Spartan spirit. In honor of these celebrations, we will highlight information related to alumni throughout the month.

The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University offers five affinity groups: the African American Alumni Association, CWRU Pride LGBT Alumni Network, Latino Alumni Network, Jewish Alumni Network and and USG Network.

These groups each aim to bring about meaningful connections in some of the university’s diverse and vibrant communities. Affinity groups provide an opportunity to engage alumni around a shared interest and identities.

The groups have a combined 1,000+ self-identified members and help to raise funds to support current students.

For example, the CWRU Pride LGBT Alumni Network supports the Ohio Leadership Award, which celebrates outstanding undergraduate or graduate students who are working to make impactful actions and advance the mission of the LGBT community. The African American Alumni Association helped establish Reach Back Raise Up to support minority students.

While affinity groups may tailor programs and events around their specific alumni population, it does not mean that they are exclusive. Learn more about how to get involved with an existing affinity group.
