If you look at the top of the Glennan Engineering Building, you will see the towers of the Case Amateur Radio Club, W8EDU. With roots inthe 1940s, the club promotes the use of amateur radio for emergency preparedness, experimentation and to have fun. The operators of the station communicate with people around the world, using voice, digital modes and Morse code.
The organization’s key events include the annual Field Day at Squire Valleevue Farm, satellite tracking and radio contesting, as well as citizen science research.
The club also offers free license exams, and students of all majors and backgrounds are welcome. The club station is open for operating hours every Thursday night at 7 p.m. Details can be found at w8edu.wordpress.com.
This week, the organization will participate in the School Club Roundup, an amateur radio contest highlighting amateur radio at educational institutions from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25. All are welcome to contact the club officers (contact information is available on the club website) to schedule a time to participate. No radio license necessary.
