Adolescents’ transitions to high school can be marked by both an increase in risky health behaviors as well as potential changes in family interaction. Using data collected from more than 8,000 8th and 9th grade students in Cuyahoga County in 2010-11, Erika Trapl, associate director of the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods and assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, and Jean Frank, manager of community initiatives for PRCHN, examine the association between parental involvement, personal assets and adolescent health behaviors. On Sept. 27, they will discuss their findings in the talk, “Risky Business in the Move to High School: Protective Effects of Parents and Personal Assets.”
The event will take place from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Studies Center (formerly Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations) Room 115.
