From outdoor escapes to amusement parks and peaceful retreats, Ohio offers countless possibilities within a short drive from Case Western Reserve University. To inspire your next adventure in recognition of National Tourism Day (May 7), The Daily rounded up seven memorable day trips, each less than four hours away.
1. Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Just a 30-minute drive from campus, Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers 125 miles of hiking trails, lush forests and picturesque waterfalls, including the popular Brandywine Falls. You can hike, bike the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail, grab ice cream in Peninsula, or ride the scenic Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad—perfect for nature lovers or anyone looking for a peaceful escape.

2. Cedar Point Amusement Park
Thrill-seekers, rejoice! Less than two hours west in Sandusky is Cedar Point, often hailed as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” With 18 world-class roller coasters, water rides and games, it’s a destination guaranteed to spike your adrenaline levels and help you create lasting memories with friends.

3. Geneva-on-the-Lake
About an hour northeast of campus along Lake Erie, Geneva-on-the-Lake is Ohio’s first summer resort town. Explore wineries, browse local shops, or simply relax on the beach. Don’t miss the classic boardwalk attractions—from mini-golf courses and arcades to delicious eateries serving local specialties like Lake Erie perch and homemade ice cream.

4. Amish Country (Holmes County)
Less than two hours south of campus, Holmes County offers a unique escape into Ohio’s Amish Country. 5. Hocking Hills State Park

6. Mohican State Park
