University Farm offers summer foraging classes

The Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms will offer Saturday foraging classes July 14, 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants will learn how to safely identify, sustainably harvest and prepare wild flora and fungi from the farm grounds. The class will involve large amount of hiking through the woods, so boots or hiking shoes, long pants, water bottles, bug spray and sunscreen are highly recommended.

Ryan Bennett, Farm Food Program coordinator for the farm and a former chef, will lead the classes. He has spent the last 10 years foraging throughout Northeast Ohio for local restaurants.

Each session costs $75 and a waiver is required for all participants. Classes may be as small as six people and as large as 12, and registration is required.

Call the farm office at 216.368.0274 to sign up.
