Undergraduates present research at Society for Academic Emergency Medicine conference

Emergency Medicine team CWRUUndergraduate students from the Emergency Medicine Research Division (EMRD) recently presented at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine regional conference, held the first weekend of February in Washington, D.C. Emergency physicians from Eastern and Midwestern states attended the conference to discuss their research and share other academic interests.

The Case Western Reserve University students who attended were Wyatt Hoch, Sabina Kumar, Matthew Wollerman, Vashti Aguilar, Jamie Shah and Anna Rosenstone, along with Steven Suggs, an emergency medicine resident at University Hospitals. Aguilar and Shah presented a study titled “Patient Attitudes Toward Smoking Cessation in an Urban Midwestern ED.” Kumar presented her summer research, titled “Comparative Analysis of Health Behaviors and Protective Factors of Students Attending International Schools vs. Government Schools in India.”

In addition to presentations of research abstracts, the conference included keynote speakers from emergency medicine and a simulated resuscitation competition for the medical students in attendance called “SIM Wars.” The students look forward to the SAEM National conference in May.
