“The Arts of Dying”

As part of the Cleveland Humanities Festival, Maggie Vinter, assistant professor of English, will discuss the arts of dying, a genre of medieval and renaissance conduct manuals advising their readers on how to die well.

Vinter’s talk will explore such questions as:

    • What does it mean to teach death?
    • What relevance could these ideas have today for writers and artists looking to represent mortality or medical professionals and patients confronting terminal illness?

The talk will take place Wednesday, March 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Kelvin Smith Library, Dampeer Room. There will be an exhibit in the Hatch Reading Room of Special Collections on the topic following the talk.

This event is sponsored by the Kelvin Smith Library.
