Telephone lines discontinued in student housing

Due to the increased use of cell phones, the need for land-line phones in student housing has significantly decreased in the last few years. In fact, fewer than 3 percent of Case Western Reserve students have activated their voicemail accounts in their residence hall rooms. Land-line phones have therefore been disconnected in individual student rooms beginning this summer.

The Office of Housing, Residence Life and Greek Life hopes in future years to install common-area phones in each residential building, which would have the capacity to also provide emergency broadcast functions.
