Suraj Srinivasan, a junior at Strongsville High School, earned a First Award in Biomedical Engineering at the International Science and Engineering Fair for research he completed under the mentorship of Andrew Shoffstall in Jeff Capadona’s laboratory.
Shoffstall is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Using the proboscis of a mosquito as a model, Srinivasan designed a guide that significantly reduces the collapse of flexible microelectrodes when inserted into tissue. He earned grand prize recognition at the Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair in March, qualifying him for an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair.
