Stanford law professor to discuss new approaches to Child Protective Services

The Schubert Center for Child Studies will host “Rethinking Child Protection,” featuring Michael Wald, the Jackson Eli Reynolds Emeritus Professor of Law at Stanford University, on Nov. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations Room 115.

In this talk, Wald will discuss why the Child Protective Services system should focus on serious threats to a child’s physical welfare and outline why a new approach is needed to meet the developmental needs of other children whose futures are seriously compromised because they receive highly inadequate parenting. Patricia Rideout, director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Juvenile and Family Services and Mark Feingold, MD, associate professor of pediatrics at the CWRU School of Medicine, will respond to the discussion.

A light lunch will be provided. Registration is encouraged but not required at schubert.case.edu/Wald.aspx.
