Psychiatry’s Phillip Resnick weighs in on a mother’s “altruistic” killing of children

Salem mom held without bail for allegedly trying to kill her children

Metro Boston: A Salem, Mass., mother accused of trying to kill her children told police she was trying to protect them. Phillip Resnick, professor of psychiatry, said the case could be altruistic and that she may have believed she was protecting them from a worse fate than death. “By saying she is saving them, she is in a category of saving their souls,” he said. “It’s murder out of love, rather than murder out of hate.”
